When starting a business, many people register with the Secretary of State’s office, buy a laptop and start providing services. However, in order to protect yourself and your family, the steps involved in starting a business, especially if home-based, may be more complex requiring a business license, paying an occupational privilege tax, having special insurance, and having contracts with your landlord or lender renegotiated.
