Butterfly Pavilion’s Monarch Magic
Monarch Magic Experience the Majesty of Monarchs at Butterfly Pavilion This November, immerse yourself in the captivating world of monarch butterflies during Butterfly Pavilion’s annual Monarch Magic celebration. From November 1–30, guests can walk among hundreds of live monarchs in our Wings of the Tropics Conservatory and learn about the incredible 3,000-mile migration of one of nature’s most iconic pollinators. In partnership with the Chicano Humanities and Arts Council (CHAC) and supported by global conservation efforts, Monarch Magic brings together science, culture, and environmental action in a one-of-a-kind immersive experience. Highlights of Monarch Magic: • Live Monarch Butterfly Release: Watch the breathtaking release of monarch butterflies and see them soar through our tropical rainforest conservatory, home to thousands of butterflies from around the world. • Explore the 3,000-Mile Migration: Learn about the monarchs’ astonishing journey from North America to the oyamel fir forests of Central Mexico through interactive exhibits and virtual reality experiences. • Pollinator Conservation Education: Discover the ecological importance of monarchs, the threats they face from climate change and habitat loss, and how you can help support native butterfly populations at home. • Support Global Conservation: Learn about Butterfly Pavilion’s efforts in partnership with the Government of Mexico to replant 100,000 oyamel fir trees, creating critical overwintering habitat for monarchs. • Hands-On Activities for All Ages: Contribute to our migration map, visit interactive learning stations, and experience powerful storytelling that connects personal memories with global ecosystems. Why Monarchs Matter Monarchs are not only known for their beauty and endurance, but they also serve as a key indicator species, reflecting the health of ecosystems across North America. Their population is in decline due to deforestation, pesticide use, and climate change. Butterfly Pavilion’s Monarch Magic is more than a celebration: it's a call to action. By visiting and engaging in our programs, you're helping raise awareness and inspire conservation efforts to protect these magnificent creatures for future generations.
