The Spirituals Project

The Spirituals Project is a consciously multi-racial and multi-generational organization, demonstrating the belief that the spirituals are a gift from African Americans to all people. The organization provides multiple ways for audiences to experience the varying musical traditions of this cultural treasure and the multi-dimensions of the spirituals tradition.
Sankofa is a 30-member vocal ensemble that is part of the Spirituals Project. Sankofa is dedicated to sharing
the beautiful concertized versions of the African American Spirituals. Sankofa is an African word and symbols
meaning “go back and get it” underscoring the importance of applying lessons from the past as we move toward building the future.
